I have an enduring passion for these beautiful old cameras and maintain a collection which includes every model. My love of the marque is why I founded the Yashica Camera Club.

Yashica Cameras

60 years ago in Nagano, Japan a small manufacturer eyed the German monopoly of twin lens reflex camera production and designed their own cameras. These 6x6 Yashica cameras were sold successfully for the next 20 years until the last in a long line, the Yashica 124G, marked the end of an era.

The Yashica 635 was my first 'real' camera back in 1963 when I was 12 years old. I often reflect with nostalgia on the black & white photos I took all those years ago and lament the passing of that golden age of photography as there is still some elemental quality that even the very best of professional digital cameras of today cannot meet.

Certainly no pro-sumer digital sensor can yet better medium format film, but the gap is rapidly narrowing. As a portraitist I find the twin lens reflex is less obtrusive upon the subject enabling the photographer to more easily capture the most important aspect of any portrait - the soul.
